About Mailara

Mailara Santana is a Production Designer born and raised in Puerto Rico. In 2001 she completed an M.F.A. at Towson University, Baltimore, MD. Shortly after, she began Art Directing movies and collaborating in many local P.R. and foreign projects. Mailara has also completed an M.A. in Retail Design at ESDesign Barcelona, Spain.


In 2003, she worked as Art Director on various projects, from shorts to local films, Hollywood movies and New Media Series like A&E’s KINGS OF SOUTH BEACH, FRIENDS WITH KIDS (filmed in New York), episodes of the series ROYAL PAINS and THE BIG C, the series MAD DOGS, and as Assistant Art Director in the series CROSSED BONES and the movie FAST & FURIOUS 5. More recently, she served as the Art Director of WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE and BLUE BEETLE for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.

Santana is now a Production Designer for Feature Films and TV Series. She has designed series like STARTUP and THE OATH for Sony Pictures, moving on to period drama features like AMERICAN TRAITOR, the comedy CHICK FIGHT, and challenging projects like BLUE MIRACLE and ARTHUR THE KING filmed in the Dominican Republic and starring Mark Wahlberg in a story based on Mikael Lindnord's rescue of Arthur (a stray dog) while competing in an adventure race in Ecuador.


Most recently, she was the Production Designer on PLANE for Lionsgate and Di Bonaventura Pictures, starring Gerard Bulter. She wrapped the feature FIGHT OR FLIGHT for Thunder Road Pictures in Budapest, Hungary, and is now designing the Netflix series NEON for Scooter Braun, which is planning to premiere in 2023.


Santana seeks to design meaningful, creative movies and series that will not only further her carrier but help impact
viewers.
